Lexington County was ranked the second highest in South Carolina for deadly auto accidents. The County Sheriff said he was embarrassed by the statistic, which shows drivers not wearing seat belts and DUI crashes are the top causes for the fatal accidents. A total of 52 people were killed in auto accidents along county roadways, an increase of 33% between 2010 and 2011. 2012 is also seeing a high number of deadly crashes. In just the first two weeks, several accidents have already occurred. In one wreck, a family heading to church was hit by a drunk driver. Their 6-year-old daughter was pronounced dead. The county sheriff has promised stricter laws on drunken driving, including overtime pay for officers enforcing DUI prevention.
As a personal injury lawyer Moncks Corner, I hope that nobody is harmed in an auto accident caused by negligence. I always urge drivers to use a designated driver, taxi, or public transportation and not risk their life and the lives of others.
